ESL Nevada

By Published On: April 4th, 2016

esl-nevadaLearning the English language is an essential skill for living in the United States. It is possible to learn from listening to other people and copying what they say and do, but taking classes gives students a comprehensive way to learn the language as well as customs that are specific to the United States. ESL Nevada classes also help students understand their responsibilities and rights when they become citizens of the United States.

ESL classes also help students learn how to apply for a job in the U.S. They can learn interview skills as well as how to write a resume or fill out a written application. The students are given opportunities to practice interview skills that will help them feel comfortable filling out applications and going to job interviews. They will also meet people who already speak English. These people will probably be willing to be listed as references on an application.

There are many misunderstandings that come with learning a new language, especially a language as complex as American English. Words may have several meanings, some of which are not even listed in the dictionary. ESL classes are a great place for students to make mistakes in their understanding and pronunciation of words and their meanings. These classes are a safe and secure place for immigrants to learn good communication skills and get comfortable with the English language before they start using it in their everyday lives.

Cultural awareness is almost as important as language skills. Even people who understand the mechanics of the English language may not know what to do when they are faced with everyday communication in America. They can gain an understanding of paying taxes, getting a driver’s license, gaining employment, using public transportation and other things that most Americans take for granted. ESL classes teach students how to communicate in English both orally and in writing, but there is so much more to living in America than reading and writing. Students taking ESL classes are learning the basics of American customs and communication that will help them thrive in their new life as an American.
